Happy Birthday, Sugar Baby!

Despite the number of candles you see on this cake, Sugar Baby turned 11 today! (Maybe each point of the star can represent a candle, too?)
Her cake was chocolate chip cake with ice cream and homemade hot fudge sauce on top!
Happy Birthday to our very sweet Sugar Baby!

Sabotage

I think we've found the reason behind our slow internet connection in the evening. Meet our new satellite technician, Bush Head.
She and her feathered counterparts have flown their coop [found an escape route that we haven't managed to fix yet] and have chosen new places to roost for the night. Bush Head has tried to perch here for the past few nights. As soon as it starts getting dark, I send the kids out on Chicken Catching Patrol & they round them all up and lock them in their coop.
It's probably a good thing we can't find where Bush Head is laying her eggs. They might be radio active or something.

Funnies from her majesty...

The royal Queenie is certainly keeping us entertained these days.
A few days ago, all was relatively quiet in the house and Queenie was nowhere in sight. Eventually, I discovered her in the bathroom. Upon opening the door, Queenie started acting very suspicious, scurrying to close cabinet doors and such, and I noticed little blue blobs all over the floor.

Me: Queenie, what were you doing?

Queenie: I... I will never EVER do it again. [said very quickly]

Me: Queenie, what were you doing?

Queenie: I... I... Iloveyoumama-yesma'am! [said very very quickly and followed by a quick hug]

I was finally able to get her to 'fess up. She admitted to sucking on the toothpaste.

I guess there are worse things in life. ?

Tonight, Queenie and I were snuggling together on my bed.

Queenie: Mommy, where are your eyebrows?

Me: Right here, see? And here are yours. Here are your eye lashes, too.

[Queenie points to her eyelashes and pulls her eyelid, distorting her eye.]

Queenie: See, I can do this with my eye.

Me: Yes I see... Queenie, where are your nostrils?

Queenie [very seriously]: Upstairs.

Me: Bahahahahahahaaa!

Queenie: No, I mean downstairs.

A Six Year Old Superhero

Superhero turned six recently. He wanted a superman cake, of course. Sugar Baby helped bake the cake. She used food coloring to make the inside cake part very blue. Seeing that particular shade of blue with the white icing immediately transported me 30 years back in time to when I was a big Smurf fan.

Oh, how I loved Smurfette! Almost as much as Superhero likes superman. :)

A Scavenger Hunt

Exactly 10 minutes ago I handed the ducklings their first of almost 30 clues. They have been begging for a scavenger hunt and make them for each other daily, so I finally pulled my mental muscles together and made a hunt for them. (I did manage to find about 4 of the clues online, but the rest came from the cobwebbed nooks and crannies of my mind - ouch!)

I'm hoping it will challenge them at least a little and encourage them to work together to find the answers.

(Oh, and I'm hoping Daddy Duck will bring home ice cream as the treasure tonight!)

Here are the clues:

My life can be measured in hours, I serve by being devoured. Thin, I am quick, Fat, I am slow, Wind is my foe."

"Runs, but cannot walk, sometimes sings but never talks. Lacks arms, has hands; lacks a head but has a face. "

Throughout history, there have been thousands of well-documented cases of horses jumping over towers and landing on clergy and small men, forcing their removal. What am I?"

"What is white when its dirty and black when its clean?"

"I have head and tail, but no legs. I am that for which the beggar begs." -

The day has been busy, I feel half dead, I’m so very grateful for my ________

A picture of myself - only backwards.

I’m smaller than a turkey roaster, I make bread brown, I’m a ________ -

Mommy runs when the snow is not deep. She turns around here, so you don’t hear a beep.

Christmas is coming, the geese are getting fat… and so will you if you eat the treats that come from these containers

Poppies are red, violets are blue, you must know your flowers to figure out this clue. (poppies, poppies, poppies!)

I make heat in the winter and cold in the summer.

When I was first invented in 1974, I was nearly 6 feet tall, weighed 750 pounds and was known as the “Radarange.”

I hide in the closet, working away. Because of me, you can have a hot shower any time of day.

In two languages, you can watch this beautiful girl go from rags to riches.

I ma klbca nad I emka scumi.

My insides are coming out. I cut Nate’s foot and made him shout.

The first one of these was invented in 1908 and was called the “Mighty Thor.”

_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _. [This one was a cryptogram, but it didn't copy and paste right correctly.]

The first of these were invented during the renaissance by eye glass makers. They are used to view tiny things.

If the printing press wasn’t invented in renaissance times, we would not have so many of these.

I used to go round and round, now for the past few years, I’ve just been hanging around. -

A growing crucifer

Don’t stop now, you’re on a roll. And so am I, just look in my hole.

Ingredients: tapioca starch, rice starch, salt and water

Your taste buds will sing when you find the next clue. It’s a home for birds and an ornament too

A wooden hexagon.

Old glory

Close your eyes when you give me a shake; quite a cloud I always make.

A light unto our path.

Congratulations!! You have found the real treasureJ An earthly one will soon follow.

Our Christmas

We had a really wonderful Christmas.

Christmas eve dinner at my mother-in-law's:
She is so good at making things pretty (and delicious!).

Monkey Man got glasses 2 days before Christmas. Doesn't he look handsome? Costumes were the theme this year for these two critters:
Plates of goodies to give away (and to nibble on as well)
