Safe

I can never understand why a lot of people think homeschoolers are overprotective.

Our family is growing

Mimi gave birth to six of these cuties yesterday!

We had thought she was due to have her kitties last week, but everyday she showed no signs of labor and just kept getting bigger & bigger. Until yesterday. Actually, I think it must have started the night before but we didn't realize it. Mimi knew though, because she transformed into a vicious swirl of claws & teeth whenever Mae was on the same floor of the house as her. Mimi chased Mae into my bathroom and had her holed up in the shower! Poor Mae - she had done nothing to provoke this hostility and was (rightfully) terrified! Now there is zero chance that Mae will come near Mimi & her babies.

We got to witness the kittens pop out one by one. Bootsie, who wants to work in some kind of vet capacity when she grows up, even assisted with the birth of the last one. Mimi was so tired that she didn't chew apart the umbilical cord (sorry, gross, I know), so Bootsie tied, snipped it herself and gently massaged the little one to help it get going.
Mama & kitties are now resting comfortably in the laundry room and Mae is snuggled safely here by my leg. :)

Happy Mother's Day!

"Of all the rights of women, the greatest is to be a mother."
-- Lin Yutang

How blessed I am to be around sweet faces like this all day long!
And no, the frog wasn't a Mother's Day gift. :)
