Home (school) Improvements
A while back I stumbled across the homeschool organizational idea of workboxes. I searched online and found lots of cute, tidy & cool ideas for making them. However, based upon past experience, I knew they would not work for me.
I absolutely have to keep things extremely simple or I fall off the bandwagon.
But, I really did need to come up with A Better Way. I needed a better way of keeping up with the ducklings' schoolwork. A better system for checking their work. A way to not let things slip. And it had to be very simple.
So, today, for $20, I got these:
There were six cardboard, half-sized, file boxes in the package - just the amount I needed. The ducklings and I assembled and decorated them this afternoon.
There is a hanging file for each day's work and a file for work that has been checked and the duckling needs to correct.
This is Mr. C's box. After he reads a chapter from his book, The Family Under the Bridge, he will move it to the next day's file. Verrrrry simple. Just what I can handle.
Queenie even has a box & I am looking forward to filling hers with fun preschool activities that normally get pushed aside [read: never done].
She and I will love that!

Happy Birthday, Mr. C!!
Mr. C turned 8 today! 
Sugar Baby made him a basketball cake. Mr. C loooooves basketball. He got to take his first foul shots ever during last Saturday's game.

Things that make you go hmmm...
According to the boy who took this picture, Cooter is a very hard-headed cat. Or a Swami.
A footprint. A bare foot print. In the snow. 
Monkey Man confirmed for me today that he has no nerves in his feet. (I had suspected such when back in October, he ran for almost 6 miles with me on our gravel driveway with NO shoes on.)
I happened upon this scene earlier today. Daisy was waxing operatic.

NYC, part 3
Snowed in!
This is the view from our hotel window this morning. The snow had barely begun by this point.
We ended up staying put in the hotel today -we had hoped to visit the Statue of Liberty, but it closed.
We had to entertain ourselves here.
That isn't hard to do when you are with friends:)
And you have a wonderful pool and hot tub.
Hopefully we can start heading south tomorrow. (And I hear more snow is headed that way in a couple of days!)

Spiders grow really big up here.
Feeding the birds the funyun crumbs left from the night before.
So many beautiful buildings
We visited the American Girl Doll store this morning. Bootsie & Sugar Baby pooled their money and bought the doll on the left for Queenie. Shhh... don't tell her - it's a surprise!
There were three floors full of dolls and their accessories.
(Cha-ching, cha-ching!)
The pizza for lunch was the BEST!

The Big Apple
Bootsie, Sugar Baby and I are currently in New York City with friends.
It was a long, slow trip because of all the snow that was dumped on our path the day before.
The interstate was very clear until we got close to D.C. From there to Baltimore, we traveled at speeds of 10-30 mph. The back seat drivers were very patient. There was so much snow and slush.
Today, we ventured out to Manhattan by bus and then by subway. The city was so busy! 
It was remarkable - twice, a stranger saw us looking at maps, trying to find our way around and asked if we needed directions or help. Others were more than willing to help us with trying to figure out which subway to get on and when to get off.
We still managed to miss our stop near the end of the day. It was okay though, because we got to walk through Times Square to get to our bus stop.
Bootsie and our friend became pros and riding the subway without holding on.
This is our home for the next few days. It is magnificent!

The girls made friends with another girl and her little brother (no, the girls can't seem to get away from little brothers:) who kept jumping off the side of the pool over the tops of their heads. As soon as he heard I wanted a picture of the girls, he swam over and started posing too.
This was my favorite part of the first night's hotel. I ran a record 10k in 56:49. I could look right through the window and see my friend and the girls in the pool.
I think this was a tunnel in Delaware.

Winter happenings
Snow, snow, go away... Mommy wants a clear driveway...
I can't believe how much snow we are getting this winter. The boys don't seem to mind - it's like having a yard full of cold, wet legos. There is always some kind of construction going on.
Speaking of construction, Daddy Duck and his helpers put in a new kitchen floor for me last weekend. I love it! 
It makes the kitchen look so much warmer and is easy to clean.
The chickens are not enjoying the snow. They refuse to walk on it. We had to clear ground for them because they would not even come out of their coop to eat or drink. I would probably feel the same way if I wasn't wearing shoes.
