Hydrangeas

Hydrangeas take me back to childhood. To long summer evenings of grownups sitting on porches, talking.
To finding hiding places on the cool bare earth beneath big blue blossoms.

Back to when time moved slowly & quietly.

A refresher

Daddy Duck & I were privileged to go out of town for a couple of days sans ducklings. We packed our bags & flew south.

But not without stopping at a fancy restaurant first. Once we arrived at our destination, the heavens broke loose and much rain fell. The skies did clear after a little while & made such a pretty picture.

After saving some hotel reward points from previous stays, we were rewarded with 2 free nights as...
Starwood Preferred Guests

Yes, ladies & gentlemen. There was a sign to prove it.

What it really meant was that our room had paper-thin walls and a non-functioning a/c. Plus, we seemed to be surrounded by other (non-preferred) guests who sleep-walked and tried to enter the suite doors to our room twice in one night.
Anyway... none of that really mattered. Daddy Duck & I were reveling in our freedom and our... love.
We brought our box of love letters we've written over the years. (Our first (and only) year of dating was spent 6 hours apart, so we wrote a LOT of letters.) We took this box into restaurants & read them together.

We did eat at a few nice places, but I only managed to get pics of the really fancy ones.

The Starwood Preferred Guests:

We visited a few upscale shopping establishments & spent almost four whole dollars.

We played games (where Mama Duck made an amazing comeback & totally creamed Daddy Duck) and had lots of laughs.

But who's keeping score?

It was such a relaxing & refreshing trip.
Note to self: do this more often!

Randomness

Woohoo! The blueberry bushes are loaded this year!

Can't believe I used to play with these critters when I was a kid

Mother's Day

Mother's Day has passed, but I thought I'd post pictures of what went on here.

I found a really cute idea online for Mother's Day cookies. We decided to make them for my mother-in-law.

First, the ducklings and I came up with a list of adjectives that described her. Then I wrote them in icing on sugar cookies.

Lastly, I packed them in a jar & voila!Meanwhile, Queenie is learning to be a good mother to her baby, Jaime.
