Cooking with Sugar Baby

We tried a new appetizer recipe today that we will be taking to tonight's New Year's Eve service at church. I found the recipe on another website & thought it looked interesting. Sugar Baby volunteered to make it. I called it Bacon Club Crackers, but I'm not sure what the real name is.
Here are the ingredients, the cook, and her Monkey Man brother.

The first step was to lay a bunch of club crackers out on a pan. Then you sprinkle each cracker with about a teaspoon of parmesan cheese. Like so:

Queenie (with a hot chocolate mustache) was upset because she wasn't allowed to help.

Next, cut the package of (thin sliced) bacon in half. Wrap each cracker with a piece of bacon. The picture is a little fuzzy, but you can get the gist of it. It was challenging to get each cracker wrapped without dumping the parmesan.

The recipe said to bake them at 250F for 2 hours, but I ended up leaving ours in for 3 hours. The fat on the bacon wouldn't get crispy looking.

Here's a picture of the final product:

Final Verdict: they ended up tasting very un-special [read: greasy and bland] and we probably won't take them with us tonight. Oh well, at least it was fun blogging about them!

Someone PLEASE help us settle this...

Is this unicorn Special or Magical? My ears tell me that it is saying "Special" but my ducklings insist it is "Magical." I clearly hear a "sp" and a short "e" sound! Don't you? You have to! (Even if you don't, you must side with me, okay? Just don't tell them I said that.)

Some of the other Performers

Note: this was an older post that somehow got deleted, so I'm reposting it here.

This is Phibby (and Queenie). Phibby was the lone survivor of a tragic event which left over 20+ of her fellow chickies lifeless. (I'll spare you the details.) Phibby is short for Mephibosheth, a character in the Bible who was lame. (A really good story, btw. You should read it.) The chickie tragedy left Phibby lame. She is very tame now, though, because of being nursed back to health by us. If you are holding food, she will even fly into your arms to get it.
(Notice how Queenie keeps a safe distance. She has been harrassed by other not-so-nice chickies who will steal her own food right out of her hands. It's hard when you're only 2 1/2 feet tall.)

Next is our pygmy goat, Charlotte (she's the one on the left...hehehe...). She is almost fully grown. Her favorite activity is to stand at the top of the porch steps and challenge the chickies to a game of King of the Mountain. It is very funny to watch.

Introductions

Introducing the first duckling... Bootsie, with her Christmas kitten, Bobby (a.k.a. Pigpen).
Bootsie, age 11, loves animals, particularly horses and cats. She is homeschooled and in the fifth grade.

The next duckling is Sugar Baby. She has Type 1 diabetes, so I call her my Sugar Baby.
She is almost 10 years old and is in the 4th grade. Sugar Baby loves making things. She can crochet hats, scarves, and even mittens! Sugar Baby also likes taking care of Queenie, whom you will meet later.

Next, we have Monkey Man, shown doing what he loves best, what he lives for, what he dreams about at night... digging. In this picture, he had just dug down to water. See the gleam in his eye?

And if you can't find him digging somewhere, just look up. He can scale a tree faster than you can blink your eye. This 8 year old dude is all boy and extremely energetic. He also loves digging. Did I already mention that?

Next is Mr. Cerebral. (Mr. C for short.) Mr. C is almost 7 & is a sweetheart. He loves knowing things and understanding why and how things work. One of Mr. C's current favorite pastimes is challenging Daddy Duck & his sisters in a game of rummy.

The next guy almost needs an entire blog of his own. He is a man of many hats, or costumes. He is about to turn five. He is hilarious. He is dramatic. He is... Mr. Superhero. The picture below is Mr. Superhero on a typical day. I should add that he would tell you that he didn't like this picture because he's not wearing his guns.

And last, but certainly not least, we have Queenie. Queenie is 2 years old. That there should tell you everything. Queenie is, well, 2 and she's Queenie. 'Nuff said.

Savoring the Circus

A peek into the funnest of times... I'm creating this blog for several reasons. One, is to give distant family members a chance to see pictures of this particular set of grandkids, cousins, neices, nephews, etc... Another is to get to know the digital camera Daddy Duck gave me for Christmas, and the other reason is just for fun. :)
Our life really is like a circus some days - with six very active kids running around (plus a goat, 2 cats and a flock of assorted chickens). It can get crazy, but we are blessed beyond what I could ever imagine and I am trying to just savor every moment. (My circus performers are growing up so fast!) Thus, the name Savoring the Circus.
