Daddy Duck and the crew put in 200 asparagus plants this past weekend. The asparagus plants were bundled as bare roots and shipped via Fedex. This is what they looked like:

In the weeks beforehand, Monkey Man and Mr. C had dug about ten long trenches to put them in. The trenches were 8" deep and 18" wide. Some went as long as 30 or so feet. My boys are digging machines!

Such hard work necessitated a lot of drink breaks. Especially when there was Mountain Dew.

To plant the asparagus, they took each crown, spread out the tentacle-like roots, and covered them with soil. They were careful to leave a little tip or two of the crowns peeking out. As they grow taller, we will fill in the trenches with more soil until they're level with the ground around them.

These won't be ready to harvest until next year, but I know they will be worth the wait!
